Show Season Ends

Hey Y’all,

It’s been a while, yup, I know. Sorry I’ve been away so long. As you know, the life of a one-man dog-and-pony show can be rewarding but leaves little time for putting it all together in a nice, tight package. So things for now are going to have to be short and sweet. I’m not even sure I remember how to upload a blog entry. How sad is that? If you’re reading this, well, I guess things went ok.

I’ve been pretty keen on opening the doors to show what I do to get ready (and execute) a bike show. And keeping in line with that process I’ve uploaded some pics from this years preparations for ExpoBici in Italy. Just a few photos that give some insight into what I do when trying to simultaneously keep the build process continuing, designing and building the show display and somehow managing to keep some sanity in my family life.

This year I didn’t want to invest a lot of time into a huge backdrop so I opted for 4 open sides which allow full view of the approach. While it seemed like a good idea at the time, little did i realize that I would need to fabricate a “backside” to my illuminated CRISP logo sign which normally used the backdrop as a cloak to hide the nuts and bolts (and lights) from the opposite side. To save time/money on a huge display stand, i decided to modify my display table into a centerpiece which would be the framework for the lights and serve as a gathering area to discuss the philosophies of custom bikes and the likes. Sounds easy enough, right? Did i mention it was on wheels? Get 4-5 large guys leaning up against it and watch my moving entertainment center roll on over like a freight train, uninvited, to the BMC  stand next door. Well, in hindsight it was a good little project for me to keep my steel welding chops up, but as usual, I prefer working on the ti frames…enjoy the slides..and I hope to be back sooner than later.

p.s. more on the bikes in a future post…ciao! -darren
